GREAT KIDS :: EVOLUTION WINTER GUARD ENJOYS BERTH TO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
By Sheboygan
Press Staff Members
Sheboygan's
very own Evolution Winter Guard placed 15th at the Winter Guard
International World Championships in April in the Independent A
Class.
Evolution traveled
to Dayton, Ohio April 11-15 for the Winter Guard International sponsored
contest and competed against 66 other independent winter guards.
Evolution has
not made it to the final round at World Championships since 2003
with their "Star Wars" production where they took fifth
place against 60 nationally competing winter guards.
Evolution offers
children and young adults a life enriching experience in the performing
arts that develops character, discipline and creative thinking skills.
These skills are developed through a performing arts
program, Evolution Winter Guard, affiliated with the Midwest Color
Guard Circuit and Winter Guard International. Its members proudly
represent Sheboygan in local, regional and national competitions
that touch the hearts and minds of over 120,000 spectators each
year.
The winter
guard activity is best described as the intersection of the performing
arts and performance sports. In the winter, its 11 "A"
guard members (ages 13-18) and nine "B" guard members
(ages 9-13) participate in the creation and performance of shows
that employ exciting musical selections and complex movement and
equipment work. In the summer, its members march in local and regional
parades to raise funds for the following winter season.
Alumni
Guard
Evolution will be forming an Alumni Guard this coming summer to
participate in local parades. If you still have the itch to spin
and are an Evolution/JR Brass/Brass Pak/Brass Revolution Alumni,
contact Teresa McGill at (414) 915-1702 or tmcgill@evolutionyouth.org
Can
You Help?
The children and young adults in our program are the direct beneficiaries
of every dollar we raise and spend. While we embrace an environment
of volunteerism and consistently apply ways to reduce cost, we need
the support and assistance of the community to ensure the continuation
of this organization. If you are willing to donate your time, services,
goods, or money please contact Teresa McGill at 414.915.1702 or
tmcgill@evolutionyouth.org.
For more information
on how you can be part of Sheboygan's premier perforning art group,
