CARDINAL ENVIRONMENTAL OFFERS CELL PHONE DISPOSAL
Environmentally-friendly
option also benefits charity
Cardinal Environmental
is proud to announce the launch of its new, free cell phone disposal
service, which gives area residents a better alternative to tossing
their used cell phones in the trash.
Not everyone
is aware that cell phones and other electronic devices are an especially
problematic component of the waste stream. This is because they
contain a large number of hazardous substances, which can pollute
the air when burned in incinerators and leach into soil and drinking
water when buried in landfills. These substances include antimony,
arsenic, cadmium, copper, lead, nickel and zinc, known as persistent,
bioaccumulative toxins, or PBTs. PBTs have been associated with
cancer and a range of reproductive, neurological and developmental
disorders.
All cell phones,
regardless of age or condition, will be accepted. Accessories are
not accepted as part of this program. Those donating their cell
phones should deactivate their phone service prior to turning them
in. Currently, cell phones can be brought to Cardinal Environmental’s
offices at 3303 Paine Avenue in Sheboygan during business hours,
7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Cardinal is developing
a network of convenient partner drop-off locations which will be
announced in the future.
Cardinal will
be collecting used cell phones on an ongoing basis for the benefit
of Evolution Youth Organization. Evolution Youth Organization offers
children and young adults a life enriching experience in the performing
arts that develops character, discipline, and creative thinking
skills. These skills are developed through its independent performing
arts program, Evolution Winter Guard, affiliated with the Midwest
Color Guard Circuit (MWCGC) and Winter Guard International (WGI).
Its members proudly represent Wisconsin in local, regional and national
competitions that touch the hearts and minds of over 120,000 spectators
each year. To learn more, visit www.evolutionyouth.org.
